Flicks: Movie Ticketing Booking System

Flicks is a solo-built movie ticketing web app featuring movie browsing, showtime selection, and seat booking — styled with a dark, ChatGPT-inspired UI. Built entirely with plain PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and MySQL, with no frameworks involved.

Background

This was my first ever full-stack web application, built as a junior developer before I had touched any framework. No Laravel, no structure — just raw PHP at the top of the file, inline SQL queries, and HTML at the bottom. It was messy by any modern standard, but it worked end-to-end and it was entirely mine.

Challenge

Building a complete, functional ticketing system without the guardrails of a framework meant figuring out routing, data handling, and UI all from scratch. The challenge wasn't just technical — it was doing all of this at a stage where the fundamentals were still being learned in real time, on a real deliverable with grades on the line.

Goal

To ship something complete and functional as a first full-stack project, and prove that the ambition was there even before the tooling caught up. The distinctive dark UI, the end-to-end functionality, and the fact that it was built solo as a junior all contributed to earning top marks — and it set the foundation for everything built since.
